Spiinafex Reads
Hello
Welcome to SpiinaReads — a no-fluff, fully honest corner of the internet where I review personal development books the way real people actually read them.
This isn’t a guru blog.
There’s no “10x your life by Tuesday” nonsense.
It’s just me — Dan — finally taking action after years of reading, highlighting, bookmarking, journaling, planning, watching YouTube summaries, signing up for online courses… and doing very little with any of it.
Sound familiar?
I’ve always been a content sponge. I love this stuff. But I realised I was caught in a loop: always learning, never doing. One day — after rereading The War of Art for the third time — I cracked. I thought: “Why the fk not?”** and wrote my first review.
Since then, this blog has become my personal record of showing up, one book at a time. It’s raw, imperfect, and hopefully, useful. You’ll find honest takes, quotes that actually stuck with me, a few Aussie metaphors, and the occasional kick up the arse — for both of us.
Meet Dan
G’day. I’m Dan Rourke — average Aussie bloke.
I’m a dad, husband, logistics planner by day, and a lifelong overthinker. I’ve got a full Audible library, more half-finished notebooks than I care to admit, and a bookshelf that looks very productive but hasn’t always seen much action.
For years, I convinced myself I just needed “one more idea,” “one more course,” “one more perfect plan.” But deep down, I knew the truth: progress doesn’t come from consuming more — it comes from acting on what you already know.
That’s why I started SpiinaReads. Not because I’m an expert, but because I’m finally in the arena. Each review is a checkpoint. Some books hit hard. Some don’t. But all of them are part of the journey.
If you’ve ever felt stuck in the loop of self-help with nothing to show for it — mate, I’m right there with you. Let’s get unstuck together.
📬 Get in Touch
Hey, Guess what! I actually check these messages myself.
Got a book suggestion?
Want to share your own journey?
Just wanna say g’day?
Hit me up using the form here.
I’m not a coach, not a guru, and I definitely don’t have all the answers — but I do love a good yarn about books, progress, and getting unstuck. So feel free to reach out. Whether you’re deep in the self-help trenches or just cracked open your first read, I’d love to hear from you.
Cheers for dropping by.
– Dan
